KULAKANTA-PARAJITA
‘SHE WHOSE EXCELLENT BEAUTY IS UNDEFEATED’
She who is shown with four hands, depicting both aspects of creation and destruction.
She, whose, two right hands are often held out in a blessing. One in the Abhay mudra saying, ‘fear not’ and the other conferring boons. Her, left hands hold a severed head and blood covered sword. The sword severs the bondage of ignorance and ego (tamas), represented by the severed head. Her red tongue, signifying the conquering of rajas by white (sattvic) nature of Her teeth.
Her dark/black form signifying Her Nirguna nature, beyond all qualities of nature and transcendence.
She wears a garland of severed heads, often numbering 50, symbolising the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet and therefore the emergence of the primordial sound AUM, which gave birth to all Mantras and Creation.
The severed arms which make up Her skirt represent the Sadhaka’s karmas taken up by Her.
She, whose beauty encompasses every secret of Nirvana. Contemplation of whose form itself can lead a Sadhaka to deeper states of Sadhana and Devotion.
